This new feature "meta description" and "search description" is only one of several new improvements that aims to makes SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for Blogger more extended and more powerful.
Blogger Meta tags description for Homepage
The meta description feature is a big step to increase SEO because is describes the content of your blog on search engines.This meta tags description will show a snippet in search engines results and as a description when you share the post on Google+, Facebook, Digg, Tweeter or other social networks and bookmarks sites. Introduce a good meta description and you increase the chances to get clicked.

To enabling and adding meta description to homepage for Blogger follow this steps:
- Go to Settings > Search preferences > Meta tags > Description and click the Edit.
- Click the Yes radio button to enable search description on your blog;
- Enter the meta description for your blog. This meta description will appear on your homepage and other multi-post pages on your blog. A few examples of blog search descriptions: “A blog about social networking and web design.” “A journal of my year in Paris.” “Healthy southern-style cooking.”
- Click Save Changes button.

Adding meta description to individual posts ca be done via Blogger post editor wen you create your post or edit it.
- Click on Blogger Posts and select a post to edit.
- Click Search Description option under Post settings. (This option appears only after you enabled search description in step 1).
- Enter the meta description for the post and click Done.
